Help & support

Need a hand with your check?

You've been asked to verify your identity, and you've got a question. You're in the right place — the answers people ask us about most are right here.

Why am I being asked to verify my identity?

EU anti-money-laundering (AML) law requires businesses — the rules call them “obliged entities” — to confirm the identity of their customers before they can provide certain services.

The business you're dealing with is required, as part of its AML/CFT compliance policy, to verify who you are. It's asked us to run a quick, secure identity check on its behalf. This is a legal requirement that applies to every customer equally: it's nothing personal, and it doesn't mean anything is wrong.

Why am I being asked to pay a fee?

Confirming your identity means checking the details you provide against secure global databases — the same trusted sources banks use. There's a real cost each time one of these checks is run, and the fee covers your verification.

You'll enter your card details securely, and the payment goes directly to us (Instant Compliance) — the business never sees your card details. It's a one-off charge for this verification, not a subscription or an ongoing fee.

How is my information used?

We run a standard identity check — you'll sometimes hear it called KYC, short for “Know Your Customer”. Using the details and documents you provide, we securely check them against trusted databases to confirm:

  • Identity check — that you are who you say you are
  • Address check — that your address is valid
  • PEP check — whether you’re a “politically exposed person”, such as a senior official
  • Sanctions check — that you’re not on any EU or international sanctions list
  • Adverse media — any relevant public records

That's it. Your information is used only to complete this verification — never sold, and never used for marketing.

Why have I been asked for more information?

Sometimes the first check can't be completed with the documents provided — a photo might be blurry, a document may have expired, or the particular service you're using needs an extra layer of verification. When that happens, we'll ask for a little more so we can finish the check properly.

It's completely normal, it doesn't mean anything is wrong, and following the prompts is usually the quickest way to get it done. If you're not sure what's being asked for, email us and we'll happily explain.

How is my data protected?

Yes — keeping your information safe is our top priority. Your data is encrypted, hosted in the EU, handled strictly under GDPR, and used only to complete your verification. We never sell it and never use it for marketing.

I'm having trouble uploading my documents

Sorry — that's frustrating. A few quick things that usually fix it:

  • Make sure the file is a clear photo or PDF (JPG, PNG or PDF).
  • Check the file isn’t too large — a photo taken directly on your phone usually works best.
  • Make sure the whole document is visible, in focus, and well lit.
  • Try a different browser (Chrome or Safari), or switch between your phone and computer.

Still stuck? We'll sort it out with you.
